Outdoor Sauna Kits: What's Included and What You Still Need
We may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page; it doesn't change what we list or how we describe it. How this works
A prefab outdoor sauna kit is the sauna itself in pieces: walls or barrel staves, ends, door, benches and hardware, and on the two makers’ listings checked here, the heater and stones too. HomeGuide says prefab kits “typically include all parts and instructions and require minimal tools.” What the box doesn’t hold is everything around it: a firm, level base, the 240-volt circuit and the licensed electrician who wires the heater, the delivery fee, and help with assembly if you want it. Some small items, like a bucket and ladle, may be extra. Check the listing for your exact model, because contents change by brand, model and heater choice.
What’s in a typical outdoor sauna kit

Almost Heaven’s barrel manual (9-2024) lists what its barrel saunas include:
- one full box of staves, plus a drain stave and a filler stave
- six barrel end sections (three per end panel)
- the heater and its mounting hardware
- stones
- a hardware bag and a doorknob assembly
- two benches and two backrests
- the banding assembly and cradles (quantity varies by model)
- an exterior bench assembly, on canopy models only
The Watoga’s product page adds an interior LED light, tempered glass and stainless steel bands, hinges and fasteners. Sweat Kingdom’s Sweat Barrel listing shows “Heater Included,” “Sauna Stones Included,” interior benches, a tempered glass front door and an interior flat floor.
Not every “kit” is a whole sauna. SaunaFin calls its material kit the inside “skin” of a sauna: lining, benches, door, heater and vapor barrier for a structure you frame and insulate yourself, such as a shed or cabana outdoors. That’s a different project; see DIY sauna vs kit.
Heater, stones and controls
On both listings the heater is a choice that sets the price. Regular prices, with any sale price next to them, checked November 1, 2026 (prices change):
| Listing | Heater option | Regular price | Sale price on Nov 1, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Almost Heaven Watoga (2–4 people) | 6 kW KIP with dials | $5,184 | — |
| 6 kW KIP Smart Heater + Fenix | $6,183 | — | |
| 6 kW Spirit Smart Heater + Fenix | $7,405 | — | |
| Sweat Kingdom Sweat Barrel, Regular (2 people) | Harvia 6 kW KIP, built-in controls | $5,895 | $5,145 (“Black Friday Sale,” ends November 30) |
| HUUM Drop 6 kW with WiFi control | $7,695 | $6,945 (same sale) |
Almost Heaven’s M3 Heater Kit page says wood-burning saunas “are recommended for certain outdoor sauna models only,” and its classic-barrel comparison chart (p. 2) lists the 4-person Essex (7’ x 6’, a 7-foot-diameter barrel) as the “Smallest barrel sauna that can fit a wood stove/virta.” The M3 Heater Kit ($3,939 as a separate item) lists a protective base and surround, two stainless steel chimney sections, a chimney boot, a chimney assembly kit, two boxes of stones and the M3 heater. Clearances, chimney and floor protection follow the stove manual and your local building code; ask your building department whether you need a permit.
On stones, Almost Heaven’s manual says to use only stones “approved for sauna heater use,” because “Inadequate stones may crack or explode.” Before you buy, ask whether the heater and its control are UL listed; the North American Sauna Society says to “Use only UL listed heaters!”
What these listings don’t include
| Item | What the seller’s page says |
|---|---|
| Delivery | “Shipping calculated at checkout” on both listings. Almost Heaven delivers curbside; moving the parts to your site is “your responsibility,” and a smaller truck, if needed, “often adds an additional $500-$750.” |
| Assembly | Almost Heaven’s professional assembly starts “at $1,400,” with debris removal as an add-on. |
| Electrical work | Almost Heaven: electrical work, including installing electric heaters, “is not included.” |
| Roof or cover | Sweat Kingdom’s cedar bevel roof kit adds $600 to the Regular Sweat Barrel with the KIP heater ($700 with the HUUM); Almost Heaven’s barrel rain jacket lists from $337. |
| Bucket and ladle | The Watoga’s features list “Sauna stones included” and no bucket; Almost Heaven sells a bucket, ladle and thermometer package for $128. Sweat Kingdom lists a bucket and ladle as an add-on at $136. |
Fixr says some prefab saunas include shipping in the price and suggests asking how the parts will be transported. Both listings above say shipping is calculated at checkout, so ask for the number before you order.
Foundation and electrical extras
Base. Almost Heaven’s manual asks for a surface that is “firm and level” and can carry “the weight of the sauna and its users (1,000+ lbs).” A deck or concrete slab works; on the ground, set the cradles on paver stones or similar. SaunaFin lists a concrete pad, a gravel pad, a patio or a deck for its prefab outdoor saunas. This Old House puts concrete slabs at $4 to $8 per square foot, and its guide to shed foundations prices a gravel pad at $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot. Call 811 a few business days before you dig. Options compared: sauna foundation options.
Circuit. Almost Heaven’s comparison chart lists the 6 kW KIP in its smaller barrels at “240V, dedicated 30 amp breaker, 10/2 wire,” and the Watoga page says “hardwire connect,” with the LED light on “110V, 15-amp service, plug-in connect.” Sweat Kingdom lists 30 amps and 10/2 wire for its 6 kW KIP and 30 amps and 10/3 wire for its 6 kW HUUM Drop, all hardwired. Those are the makers’ listing numbers; check them against the heater’s installation manual, and a licensed electrician confirms the circuit and pulls the permit. Fixr prices a new 220-volt circuit at $500 to $800, HomeGuide a dedicated 220V circuit at $250 to $900. More on sauna electrical requirements, and the full budget on outdoor sauna cost.
Assembly time and tools
| Source | Time | Crew |
|---|---|---|
| Almost Heaven assembly service FAQ | “For most saunas, assembly is completed in a single day” | professional crew |
| Sweat Kingdom Sweat Barrel page | 3–4 hours (the line names the Sweat Pod) | 2–3 people |
| SaunaFin, its prefab saunas | 4–8 hours | — |
| HomeGuide, outdoor prefab saunas | 15–20 hours | — |
Almost Heaven’s manual lists a cordless drill, rubber mallet, hammer, framing square, screwdrivers, utility knife, level and wrench; Sweat Kingdom’s listing adds a measuring tape and a skill saw or table saw. Almost Heaven’s manual says to use two or more people for heavy pieces, and its shipping policy suggests a dolly or cart.
Questions to ask the seller
- Which heater, what kW, and are the heater and control UL listed?
- What does the heater need: volts, amps, breaker, wire, hardwired or plug-in? (Give this to your electrician.)
- Are stones, a bucket and ladle, and a thermometer in the box?
- What’s the shipping cost, and is delivery curbside? Who unloads, and with what?
- What base does the manual require, and how much does the assembled sauna weigh? (Almost Heaven’s chart lists 680 lbs for the Watoga.)
- What’s the lead time? (The Watoga page said 6–8 weeks; Almost Heaven’s “Quick Ship” Watoga, $6,183, comes only with the KIP Smart heater and Fenix control. Sweat Kingdom said 5 weeks, longer for October–December orders.)
- What does the warranty cover, and does self-assembly affect it? Almost Heaven lists a limited lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects, with Harvia heaters at 1 year on elements and 5 years on other parts; Sweat Kingdom lists 3 years. Fixr says many name-brand prefabs carry a lifetime warranty “as long as the sauna is professionally installed.”
- What’s the return policy? Almost Heaven takes back unopened products within 30 days, less shipping both ways and a 25% restocking fee.

Safety and permits
A sauna heater needs its own circuit sized to the maker's manual — have a licensed electrician wire it and pull the permit. Wood-burning stoves need the clearances and chimney in the stove's manual and local code approval. Before digging for a foundation, call 811. This site doesn't give medical advice: if you're pregnant or have a health condition, ask your doctor before using a sauna.
